Prof. José María Vázquez García-Peñuela is Rector at the Universidad Internacional de La Rioja, Spain (UNIR) since 2009.
Prof. Vázquez García-Peñuela hols a PhD in Law and a PhD in Canon Law.
Professor at the University of Granada (Spain) since 1993 and Professor at the University of Almeria (Spain) since 1997. In the latter he was also Dean (2000-2004) of the Faculty of Law and Vice-Rector (2007-2008) of International Relations and Cooperation.
Specialized in History of Church-State relations in modern and contemporary Spain and in the legal regulation of faiths and religious freedom in Spain.
Organizer of the International Symposiums of Concordat Law since 2003 on a biannual basis. Corresponding member of the Royal Academy of Jurisprudence and Legislation. Member of the Martín de Azpilcueta Institute of the Faculty of Canon Law at the University of Navarra. Co-director of the Collection of Canon Law and Ecclesiastical Law of the Comares Publishing House (Granada, Spain). Author of several monographs of his field of expertise and a textbook of his subject. He has made extensive research stays in the Vatican Secret Archive.
